sans christmas tree

I love Christmas. It is my absolute favorite time of year. I have looked forward to holidays with babies and littles for as long as I can remember.

But last year, as we put away the Christmas decorations, I told Austen that I wasn't sure we were going to put them up this year since we had hoped to be home in Texas for Sophia's first Christmas.

Like a little foreshadowing, it was true. Austen even said the other day we're just so ready to move back to Texas, we don't want to decorate this house anymore. I've been reading the life changing magic of tidying up and am compelled to get rid of all the things. The thought of bringing more into our house right now just about sends me into a frenzy.

I did bring a teeny bit of Christmas cheer into our house. I had to set up our Christmas tree farm on top of the piano (my absolute favorite), and swap out the bell with mistletoe. On top of our coat hook got some love as well with favorite canvases, a Polish Santa (from Austen's grandma) and white ceramic barn. We have a little household organizing station now (all the praise hands - this has been a game changer for us) and it got a little holiday sprucing with a felt ball garland and Christmas cards taped to it.

Simple, ya'll. That's the name of the game these days. To be honest, I do miss the magic of a Christmas tree, but I just feel like this was right this year. Being able to let go of that mindset of what we have to do was so good, too. Being able to focus on other things was just so much better for our family this holiday season.

Oh, but we do have one tree. A teeny tiny cute little guy. It's definitely being planted outside at the beginning of the new year!
