halfway there!!

Friday, October 3, 2014

This week, I had an appointment with an ultrasonographer and children's cardiologist for a fetal echocardiogram (detailed ultrasound of little pea's heart) since I have Long QT Syndrome. No, you can't see anything on her heart development that might indicate whether she has Long QT or not, but any baby can have a heart defect and this ruled that out. It was also a great opportunity to talk with the children's cardiologist about what we'll do for her genetic testing and such once she's born.

While there, the children's cardiologist made the call to move all of my care off base. Originally, I would just keep seeing my perinatalogist and then deliver her at the hospital on the Air Force Base. Not anymore! Everyone will be in one place and if there are any issues, all of my doctors will be right there. I'm really excited for this new plan of care! I'll also have an actual OB/GYN now, instead of seeing all of the midwives and nurse practitioners (wasn't a fan that there are no OB/GYNs on base, from what information I gathered) since any one of them might be the one who delivers little pea. I like this plan much better!

how far along: 20 weeks (in the picture) - YAY! for being halfway there!!

baby size: I'm assuming still somewhere around 8 inches and 8 ounces like last time, but am not positive.

baby's progress: We had an echocardiogram done with a sonographer from my perinatalogist's office and a children's cardiologist. Everything looks great! Although we realized little pea is pretty dang stubborn. She didn't like them tapping my belly and me flipping from side to side trying to get her to move into a good position, so she kicked the ultrasonographer's wand about halfway through the ultrasound. Classy, child.

weight gain: Somewhere around 15 lbs. I gain some, I lose some.

stretch marks: No, but I'm still using Burt's Bees mama bee belly butter.

sleep: I got sick with some head cold/gunk this past week, so sleep has evaded me. I can't breathe well at night and would wake up feeling all around crummy. I took Friday off of work to try and sleep off whatever it is! So far, no fever (which some of my second graders did get), and I'm making it my j-o-b to make sure I don't get one!

movement: Oh yes. Little pea moves a lot when I'm laying down still, so in the morning and evenings, or when my heart rate gets pumpin'. Those parent phone calls and emails I don't want to make? Baby does flips. She also loves sugar and goes nuts when I eat a cookie or drink orange juice. Austen's ready to feel her, and I'm ready for that, too!

best moment this week: The weather finally cooled off here into the 80s so I feel great! I also love looking more pregnant and not just chunky anymore. I can still hide the bump, but not for much longer. My momma also sent me a care package with some maternity clothes, some non-maternity clothes I can make work as maternity (thankful for that, still!), a onesie and elmo bibs for little pea, and raisenettes!

looking forward to: Having all of my care moved off base. I just love my perinatalogist, and am sure I'll love my new OB/GYN, too.

food cravings: Pineapple. Mmm. I also made an apple crisp last weekend after going apple picking with some friends, and then majorly craved chocolate chip cookies later in the week. Luckily, everything I crave I can make, so at least I know what went into it.

weirdest food I ate this week: I don't think I crave weird stuff, and really don't eat anything out of the usual.

anything making you queasy or sick: The nausea has pretty much gone away, which is great! I have some kids who give me hugs and hit at just the wrong spot on my belly and that'll make me feel queasy.

labor signs: No

what I miss: My old J.Crew jeans and bra. I had to tuck them both away. I also cannot wear some skinny belts because my waist is nonexistent. I keep reminding myself I'm still tiny, and that's a baby, not fat. But there's some things you just have to put away for the time to keep yourself from shedding tears over your old butt.

symptoms: Lots of baby movement, still frequent midnight bathroom trips, and now the hormonal tears have started! We got a 5th second grade teacher this week, and 6 of my kiddos moved to her classroom. One really didn't want to go, but he put on a brave face and wiped away tears. Then, at the very end of the day when we walked to the buses, he cried big alligator tears and held my hand the whole way. I was fighting back bawling right along with him! :'(

things that suck: Being sick while pregnant. There's just something about it that really sucks.

things that don't suck: We got our BOB stroller and car seat this week! We've had a double BOB jogging stroller that we got at an REI garage sale for "someday", and I always really liked the quality and their customer service. We got a regular stroller and I seriously love it. I also ordered the book we'll use to announce her name, and I can't wait to get it in the mail! Austen had the idea of first announcing it to family and friends (that don't already know) at our baby shower in Texas over Thanksgiving, so we'll do that first and then share on social media!
